Welcome to Unaroo Designs - I'm Alex, the owner, dyer and everthing else here.

Once upon a time, I was very much on the 'expected' path; I was working in the same field as my degrees, plodding through the same routine day after day. It never made me feel alive but it was the 'right' path, the 'right' choices.

Then the pademic hit.

For as long as I can remember, I have planned on opening a wool shop when I retire, but for someone in their mid-20s that felt a long way away and I started to wonder why these dreams had to wait...

And so the idea of Unaroo was born. I can't get enough of beautiful handdyed yarn and yarncrafts, and I am so proud of, and passionate about, our rich woolly heritage here in the UK. It seemed about time to put the two together! I bought a yarn dyeing kit for Christmas 2020, and Unaroo went live a year of learning later, all dyed from my kitchen!

I’m on a mission to bring beautiful British wool back into mainstream use for you, the conscious crafter. That’s why our dye process is single-use plastic free, and we reuse our water where possible. Our packaging is a combination of recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable. Our hobbies, our creativity, shouldn’t come at the expense of the planet.

I want to help you enjoy the crafts you love with the bright colours you love, safe in the knowledge that you know where your yarn came from.
